This urban route enables the walker to experience the beauty of Lordship Recreation Ground around the lake as well as the surrounding neighbourhood and estate. A slight slope up to Higham Road presents a mild challenge that can be avoided by taking the Alternative route out of the park via Freedom Gate.
[1] Leave the Broadwater Farm Community Centre and turn right into Lordship Lane Recreational Ground. Follow the path with the Spinney (treed area) on the left and Harmony Gardens on the right. When the path splits take the left path. The adventure play area is on the left.
[2] Follow the path past the Shell Theatre on the right and cross over the first bridge and continue straight ahead through the line of trees.
[3] On approaching the lake take the first path on the right to walk around the lake counter-clockwise.
[4] After walking around the lake take the path over to the straight path going up the slight hill to the top of the Rec. If you do not want to walk up the slope turn left here to go back towards the river and following the path to Freedom Gate. At the top of the hill is a bench that allows a view of the whole park and the estate. You will see the Environmental Centre (Hub with cafe and toilets) in the centre of the park.
[5] Pass through the gate and turn left into Higham Road. At the top of the park to the left of the gate is an allotment site. Take care when walking in Higham Road as some of the paving slabs are uneven. Before coming to Gloucester Road you will pass Broadwater Lodge on your left.
[6] Turn left into Gloucester Road. Directly ahead you will see the large and impressive mural on the end wall of Debden depicting the Dunn's River Falls in Jamaica. Cross to the right side and walk towards the estate.
[7] Cross The Avenue. Turn right into Memorial Gardens where you will find benches and large stones for sitting.
[8] Return to Gloucester Road and continue walking down towards Adams Rd. You will see the Children's Centre ahead.
[9] Turn left into the seating area and proceed towards the Community Centre. In Adams Road be aware of numerous vehicles in the area for construction projects.
