Leicester city centre is served by a frequent service of buses.

Description

This inner city walk has a number of busy roads, please take care when crossing and walking beside them.  Use pedestrian crossings where possible.

Some of the pavements and paths are uneven in places - take care.

There are public toilets at Infirmary Square.

[1]  From Infirmary Square turn right to cross Infirmary Road by the pedestrian crossing and continue into Carlton Street.

[2]  Cross the road and continue to the end.  Then cross Welford Road at the pedestrian crossing towards Bannatyne's Health Club.

[3]  Take the road to the right of the gym (Regent Road) then go first left down Duke Street. After a short distance turn right onto Marquis Street and continue to the end.

[4]  Turn left onto King Street and continue until you reach Fenwick's on Belvoir St. Cross over onto the pedestrianised Market Street, continuing across Millstone Lane and Friar Lane to reach the entrance to the St Martins Square arcade at the corner of St Martins.

(A)  To find the spot where the bones of King Richard III were recently found, go left 100m down St Martins, crossing Greyfriars, to a point just short of the cathedral. On the left is an iron gate onto a small private car park containing nothing more than a patch of new tarmac. This is the site of Greyfriars Priory Church. The King was killed at the Battle of Bosworth on August 22nd 1485 and was buried here for more than 500 years.  Retrace your steps to St Martins Square.

[5]  Pass through the entrance of St Martins Square and, about halfway through the Square, take the path on the left (Loseby Walk) and continue forward.

[6]  Turn right onto Loseby Lane, cross over Silver Street and continue forward  to join High Street.

[7]  Turn right onto High Street and continue forward for about 100 metres.

[8]  Turn right into Royal Arcade.

[9]  At the end of the Arcade turn left onto Silver Street and then almost immediately turn right into Malcolm Arcade. At the end of the Arcade turn left onto Cank Street and then almost immediately turn right into Odeon Arcade and continue forward, to emerge in the market area.

[10]  Turn left onto Market Place then first left onto Cheapside and continue to the end.

[11]  Turn right onto East Gates and walk to the clock tower - the Highcross Shopping Centre is to the left and the Haymarket Shopping Centre is in front.

[12]  Turn right onto Gallowtree Gate passing Marks and Spencers on the left, cross Halford Street and continue forward onto Granby Street.

[13]  Turn right at the Grand Hotel (Mercure Leicester City Hotel) onto Belvoir Street, and continue past Fenwick's.

[14]  Cross the zebra crossing to reach the statue of John Biggs. Go forward across the lights on Welford Road and down the left hand side of Newarke Street, towards the Magazine Gateway.

[15]  At the Gateway cross Oxford Street using the pedestrian crossing, turn left and continue forward.

[16]  After about 200 metres turn right onto Bonners Lane.

[17]  After a short distance turn left onto Grange Lane and continue to the end to return to  Infirmary Square.
