Weymouth: Sea views from a trail

[1] Turn left out of the Health Centre. 

[2] Turn left into Williams Avenue and continue along this road.

[3] Turn right into Fairview Road.

[4] At the end of this road, follow the path signposted "public footpath". This path will exit onto Rylands Lane. There is a playing field at the bottom of the lane, where you may like to pause.

[5] At the end of the path, turn right onto Rylands Lane. At the bottom of the Lane, is the access path to the Rodwell Trail.

[6] On the trail , there is seating available for a stop. As an optional extra walk, turn left along the Rodwell trail and a short walk will bring you to Sandsfoot Castle and gardens. Return to waypoint 5 and back to Rylands Lane.

[7] From the bottom of Rylands Lane, turn immediately left and you will be on Doncaster Road. Follow this road.

[8] Hillbourne road will be signposted on your right. Turn right here and then bear left  and follow Hillbourne Road  to the main road Portland Road)

[9] At this junction, turn right onto Portland Road and stay on this path to take you back to the Health Centre.

A The Rodwell Trail

Used to be a railway line between Weymouth and Portland. The Trail finishes at Ferrybridge, and links with the public footpath to Portland. Nowadays, it is a well used Trail for walkers, cyclists and families enjoying the different views offered along the way.

B. Sandsfoot Castle and gardens

One of Henry VIII's forts built in 1530's, opposite its contemporary Portland Castle. They were both designed as coastal defences. Today most of the castle has fallen into the sea. Enjoy the park gardens where there are refreshments available.
