Description

[1]  Leaving 'The Allendale', turn L across the footbridge towards the car park and immediately turn L with the car park on your R and the river on your L. Continue ahead along this path, crossing a road, until you reach a Blue Painted Footbridge on your L.

[2]  Do not cross the bridge but stay on the path which leads on to Elizabeth Road. Turn R and continue to T Junction (Allenview Road). Cross Allenview Road and turn R and continue to Greenhays Rise on your L

[3]  Turn L up Greenhays Rise until you reach No 11 Greenhays Rise on your L

[4]  Turn down a road on the R, which is unmarked but opposite No.11 Greenhays Rise. Take the narrow hedged tarmac path on the RH side  which will bring you out, past a bollard, near the roundabout that connects Hanham Road with Rowlands Hill. Turn L up Rowlands Hill for 40m to fence on L and cross over road with great care and enter the drive marked Garth Lodge No 10.  

[5]  Continue down the drive to fencing ahead and take the gravel path on R leading to Cuthburga Road. Turn L uphill to T Junction at Yew Tree Close. Turn R as road bends L then R down Legg Lane. Take first R into Parkwood Road.

[6]  At the end of Parkwood Road cross over the main road at the controlled crossing and turn R towards Waitrose supermarket and then L into Park Lane. In 50m cross road and go through the bollards into the grounds of Waitrose Supermarket on your R.

[7]  Take the lower LH path towards the river and at signpost go ahead with the river on your L. Exit grounds at bollards and turn L over bridge to Crown Mead road.

[8] Turn R towards the roundabout and return to the Allendale Centre via the subway and Allendale South car park.. 

POI information

A. Information regarding the wildlife to be seen along the banks of the River Allen.

B. The two towers of the Minster can be viewed from here.

C. The landscaped grounds of Waitrose supermarket were formerly on the site of the Wimborne cricket ground.

 

Notes

The steep uphill section in Greenhays Rise can be avoided if this walk is done in reverse.
