Description

[1] Turn left from the car park into Regents Way, walking past the Bay Inn and the church. At the roundabout, cross carefully going straight ahead on to the Westen Access Road. Walk past the garage on your left.

(Point of Interest A is the location of the Meadowfield bus stops. The Western Access road is easily accessed from this point by walking to the roundabout nearby to see the church or the garage.)

[2] Turn left into Harbour Way with the sports grounds on your left. Turn left at the roundabout and walk down Harbour Drive. At a suitable point, cross to walk down the right hand side of Harbour Drive, There are a number of traffic islands available. At the roundabout at the end of Harbour Drive, turn right into Spinnaker Way.

As you walk down Harbour Drive, there are dramatic views of the Forth Bridges.

[3] Near the end of Spinnaker Way, turn left down some steps and then left again. Now follow the Fife Coastal Path signs for about 2.5 mls, passing by the anchor feature (B), Donibristle House (C) to arrive at St Bridget's Kirk (D).

Watch out for speeding cyclists using the Coastal Path particularly between Donibristle House and St Bridget's Kirk!

(B) The anchor feature is located at St David's Harbour, now a scene of tranquility. However In the early 20th century this Harbour was busy with the export of coal from the pits around Crossgates and Cowdenbeath.

(C) Donibristle House and nearby stables have recently been refurbished. It was in this locality that the murder of the 'Bonnie Earl of Moray' took place in 1592 by the Earl of Huntly durng the reign of James VI. Just off the coast is the island of Inchcolm where the Abbey dating back to 1235 can be seen on a clear day.

(D) St Bridget's Kirk. This worth looking at. There is signage giving information provided by Historic Scotland. A possible refreshment stop.

[4] The path swings round to the left. Keep left and follow the straight Four Lums Road for about 0.5 mls. Then turn left just past The Cornerstone Gospel Church and then left again heading up the Eastern Access Road. Cross over carefully to walk up the pavement on the right hand side.

[5] Ascend the steps on the right to access the Bluebell Woods (E). At the end of this woodland, turn right and head for the underpass under Moray Way North near a cluster of shops. After passing through the underpass, turn right and walk up and at the end of Dalmeny View follow the path on the left to Regent's Way. This leads back to the start or for some refreshment at the Bay Inn.

The footpath through the Bluebell Woods can be muddy after heavy rain.

I reccied this walk yesterday as the Dundee Group are doing it on 13th July. It was a very pleasant walk, not at all difficult and easy to follow Ben's instructions. I particularly enjoyed the walk along the shore looking at the lovely houses. There was quite a lot of road walking which is normal when walking round the outskirts of a town. I did not realise that Dalgety Bay was so big. As advised by Ben we had our coffee in the Bay Inn and intend taking the group there on the day of the walk. The cheesecake was delicious as was the coffee. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. I hope other groups will also add this walk to their programme.
