There are a number of fairly busy roads to cross - take care to cross safely.
[1] Turn right outside the Village Hall. At the Stamford Arms cross left onto Ratby Road. Turn second right, half way up the hill, onto Stephenson Way and continue all the way to its end at Forest Rise. Go left then immediately right into Lawnwood Road and follow it to where it curves sharply round to the left.
[2 Turn next right onto Woodlands Drive, continue to the end and keep on down the path between houses 71 and 73. ] At the end turn left onto a muddy path and go a few metres to a kissing gate into Martinshaw Wood Shortly afterwards the path curves left and other paths go off to the right. Follow the path straight ahead, past where a wide roadway goes through the trees on the right, following the waymarks. Ignore minor paths to the right and left. You reach another kissing gate.
[3] Turn left then bear left through the edge of the wood. You reach another fork where a paved path goes right to the school. Instead keep left to another kissing gate which leads to a narrow path onto Woodbank Road. Turn right and continue down the hill. Turn right onto Ratby Road and cross almost immediately into the unnamed lane opposite. Ascend the steps on the left. Turn right and walk down the line of the old Groby Granite Railway.
(A) The Groby Granite Railway was completed in 1832, and joined the Groby quarries to the Leicester and Swannington Railway, giving access to Leicester. The line was actually completed before the L&S, making it one of the earliest in the Midlands, if not the country.
For a short walk take this alternative route:- Turn left onto Ratby Road, continue to the end and turn right by the Stamford Arms to return to the Village Hall
[4] After about 200 metres take the path through the green space. Continue forward and take the footpath in the corner, just off to the right. Turn left onto Garendon Way. Turn left at the 'T' junction and follow Oakmeadow Way around to the right. Take the footpath in the right-hand corner to access Beacon Field and continue forward past Lady Jane Grey School to the top of Budgens' car park. Turn left into Pymm Lee Lane and then immediately right onto Pine Tree Avenue.
[5] Take the first left onto Chestnut Walk then turn first right onto Beaumont Green. After about 80 metres the road forks. Go right and take the footpath which is between two thick hedges directly in front of you. This leads onto Stamford Memorial Park . ] Turn left onto the perimeter path and follow it for a short way to exit the park through the car park. Cross over Sycamore Drive then go down Sycamore Grove on your right. At the end continue down the paths to the end of Dalby Drive. At the far end of Dalby Drive turn left onto Leicester Road and continue forward to return to the Village Hall.
