Description

[1] Walk down 'Church Street' until you reach the main road. Turn right along the main road and walk through the village.

[2] You will walk past the Village Green on your right and the 'Cross Keys' pub on your left. Cross over the other side of the road here as the pavement ends soon on the right hand side. Follow the road further until you walk past the sign of 'Roast Calf Lane'.

[3] You will see a public footpath sign after the brick wall on the right side. Cross the road and walk down the steps to follow the footpath. Follow the signs around as they lead you over fields.

[4] You will get to an opening after walking in between hedges. Walk to the right corner of the field. Cross the stile, walk uphill and you will reach a graveled path.

Take care as it might be muddy in wet weather.

[5] Turn right on the graveled path and follow it for a distance.

[6] You will see a gate in front of you. Bear left here as this is the path towards the lake and Hardwick Park.

[7] Cross the bridge and turn right to walk past the lake on your left side. Follow this graveled path for a long distance.

[8] Ignore other paths going off this graveled path and keep on walking straight ahead. Go through the gate and walk on a more narrow path.

[9] As this path ends, turn right to go down some steps and through a dip to get up again on the other side and over a bridge. Follow this path as it leads you along a stream on your left and fence (later stone wall) on your right. Follow this path for a distance.

Take care as it may be muddy in the dip.

[10] Go over a stile and turn right to walk along the stone wall and to get back to the village. After a while, you will see a bird hide on your right.

[11] Just past the sewage works on your right, keep on walking straight ahead and ignore the path leading into the field. Follow this graveled path until the end. When you reached the road again, turn right and return to your starting point in 'Church Street'.

Take care as there may be livestock in the fields.

Bishop Middleham is home of a football club, Bishop Middleham FC, that plays in DDSL 3rd division after promotion last season. After the game, they usually go The Fleece Inn.
