[1] From the main doorway of Beaumont Lodge go left along a wide tarred path into trees, which curves left.
For a quick walk to the pools go right along a gravel path marked for dog walkers. This brings you to the upper pool.
[2] You reach a path junction. Go right, signed 'Churchbell Way' along the outside of the Bennion Pools Nature Reserve.
There are some great views from Churchbell Way over to Bradgate Park on the left.
[3] Cross Bevan Road and take Taverners Road straight in front and follow it around.
To shorten the walk turn right along Bevan Road then turn right into the reserve. Continue from point [6].
[4] At the T-junction turn right, crossing Taverners Road, onto Lords Avenue and continue to the end, at the mini roundabout.
[5] Turn right onto Bevan Road and after 50m cross to enter Bennion Pools. Note: There is no drop kerb opposite the park entrance.
[6] Take the path to the right (which is tarred but becomes gravel) to walk around the upper pool and return to the entrance.
Take care on the paths by the waterside and keep away from the water's edge. The paths are gravelled and uneven and may be muddy in wet weather.
(A) Bennion Pool Nature Reserve, is one of Leicester’s most recent parks. It has been largely developed through the efforts of the local community. The site has two large pools containing carp, roach, rudd, tench, perch and bream. Coots, moorhens, ducks and swans can be found in and around the pools. Trees to be found in the woodland include ash, alder, hawthorn, willow and oak. There are seats by the pools.
Turn right onto Bevan Road and then left onto Bennion Road.
[7] Turn right onto Astill Lodge Road and return to the centre.
