Description

Start: Outside the Hallamshire Hospital on Glossop Road. S10 2JF

[1] Cross Glossop Road at the lights. Go left and use the pedestrian crossings to Clarkehouse Road. Turn right along Clarkehouse Road past the arched entrance of the Francis Newton pub, but take the next entrance to the pub (on the left) and continue downhill, keeping the Francis Newton to your left, until you see the entrance to Lynwood Gardens ahead (A).  Feel free to walk around the gardens (there is a website: http://www.sibaker.dsl.pipex.com/lynwood/Education.html and several interpretative panels within the gardens) or keep left after entering, then take the 3rd branch right down beside the flats (on your left). Exit beside the flats and enter a short cul-de -sac.

[2] Bear right out of the cul de sac, and after 150yds look carefully for the walkway on your right (after a row of bungalows at right angles to the road and with a small tarmac area in front). Enter the walkway and continue on the path to the left following the sign pointing to Broomspring Lane. Descend the steps through a landscaped grassy area and turn right along Havelock Street.

[3] Near the end of Haverlock Street, cut left through a seated area called Holberry Gardens and walk down the road with the same name. Turn right along Brunswick Street, and first left into Clarke Street and then first right into Travis Place. Go straight on along Clinton Walk and follow the path, crossing Clinton Place,  through the grassed area and across Sunny Bank into Sunnybank Local Nature Reserve (B).  Go left at the junction, circling back taking the first right passing the pond on your left.  Turn right at the information panel up the tarmac path to a pleasant seated area ideal for a picnic lunch. The exit is just ahead.

[4] Leaving the reserve at the top of the path, go straight ahead along Broomhall Place. Take the first left onto Broomhall Road and then turn right into Park Lane. Continue ahead crossing the junction with Collegiate Crescent  and uphill to Clarkhouse Road.  Cross Clarkhouse Road at the top and turn right and immediately left  to walk up College Street turning right at the top to return back to the hospital.
