[1] Start at the Car Park by the side of The George and Dragon. At the road, turn left along the lane, and follow it round to the right with the Church on the right. The lane opens up withe views left across the valley to Arundel and The Castle. At the end of the lane, cross and join the path, past Peppering Farm and buildings, on the left.. Go down the path with hedge either side; path swings right downhill; ignore 2 sign-posted paths on the left and continue ahead onto a narrow path, with hedges either side
(A) Arundel Castle is a restored medieval castle It was established by Roger de Montgomery in 1067. Roger became the first to hold the earldom of Arundel by the graces of William the Conqueror. The castle was damaged in the English Civil War and then restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. From the 11th century onward, it has served as a hereditary stately home and has been in the family of the Duke of Norfolk for over 400 years. It is still the principal seat of the Norfolk family.
[2] At the end of the path, one path goes right up a steep flight of steps. Take the other path, left and climb gradually, alongside line of telegraph poles, coming close to the railway line, which goes under a lane, turn sharp right along the lane, which becomes a track, to a gate, then fork left. As track climbs, look back for wide view of Arun Valley to Arundel Castle and the sea. Go ahead at crossing track to a junction of paths.
[3] Turn left up a wide path to a junction of three paths, turn sharp right, down a narrow path. Eventually the path widens out and there are views, right, across the valley. Go up to a gate.
[4] Go through the gate and turn right down a wide path and at the bottom, turn left, climbing gradually to Burpham High Barn and the descend to road. Go down the road to a T junction, turn right up the road and shortly join a footpath, left. Climb to a level path, with gardens on the left, eventually, to a wall, leading into a churchyard. Climb the wall and go through the churchyard, with the church on right, down to the road, with The George and Dragon opposite. Cross the road and enter the Car Park
