Description

[1]  Leave the Quadrant through the passage between the houses and turn left onto Anchor Street.  Cross over and soon turn left down Rose Street.  At the end, turn left along Corporation Road, passing Abbey Pumping Station on your right.

[2]  Take the footpath at the end towards the river, and follow the path as it bears left, with the river on your right.  Continue until you reach the bridge at Thurcaston Road.

Take care on this footpath and watch out for cyclists

[3]  On meeting the road, turn right onto the pedestrian part of the bridge across the River Soar.

[4] Continue along Thurcaston Road. Just after passing the Talbot pub, see Church Road on the right.

[5] Turn right into Church Road, passing Belgrave Hall on the left (A). Shortly turn right through the main gates into Belgrave Gardens.

(A)  You are now entering the Belgrave Hall and Belgrave Gardens Conservation Areas.  The Hall was completed in 1709 and is a Grade II listed building. The gardens are a site of special historical interest and were created at about the same time.  It is rumoured that ghostly apparitions have been seen in the Hall

Take the path to the right, around the edge of Belgrave Gardens. At the path junction turn left to continue around the edge of the gardens, with the river on your right.  Continue ahead for some time until you emerge onto Vicarage Lane. This a long road which becomes Mill Hill and narrows considerably.

[6] On reaching the triangle of grass, take the path right beside the Sea Cadets building, then very soon take the path between the buildings towards the river.

(B)  TS (Training Ship) Tiger is the headquarters of the Leicester sea cadet unit.  It was founded in 1937 and is a charitable organisations that has helped thousands of youngsters learn about leadership, land and sea skills.  They meet on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are always keen to accept new recruits and volunteer helpers.

[7] Take the bridge over the river and turn left to retrace your steps along the river path. Turn right onto Corporation Street and retrace your steps to the centre.
